Antelope Canyon Day Trip

08/04/2017

Finally, I visited Antelope Canyon!

Antelope Canyon is a slot canyon in the American Southwest. It is on Navajo land east of Page, Arizona. Antelope Canyon includes two separate, scenic slot canyon sections, referred to individually as "Upper Antelope Canyon" or "The Crack"; and "Antelope Canyon" or "The Corkscrew".

The Navajo name for Upper Antelope Canyon is Tsé bighánílíní, which means 'the place where water runs through rocks'. Lower Antelope Canyon is Hazdistazí (called "Hasdestwazi" by the Navajo Parks and Recreation Department), or 'spiral rock arches'. Both are in the LeChee Chapter of the Navajo Nation.

From Phoenix heading North, take I-17 and US-89, took four hours plus to reach our destination. The scenery on the way always stunning.

The only way to visit Antelope Canyon is to join the local guided tour arrange by the Navajo (the Native American people of the Southwestern United States) , the nature's structure of Antelope Canyon could be very dangerous especially during the rain season, therefore it is a need to hire the experienced local guide. Since we have limited time, we only able to visit Lower Antelope Canyon which was advised by Tripadvisor that it might be less crowded compare to Upper Antelope Canyon. There are two tour agency that arrange Lower Antelope Canyon's tour, both with same price, 25USD per person. We bought the 11am slot from one of the agency that have better facility, which is the best time to visit Antelope Canyon.

Since we still have some extra time, we went to nearby Antelope Point Marina to take a look.

Finally is our turn! You need to get down to the canyon by ladder one by one, today the canyon is crowded with tourist!

It was crowded with people and difficult to take a photo, luckily at the end of the way, it was less crowded and I manage to get some good photos.

This place is really amazing, the sunlight, the color of the stone, the shape, everything was unique and beautiful!

Well, this is the exit of the canyon, if you just pass by yourself, you will never know there are such a beautiful place down there.

Continue our road trip with sport car!

Stop by hanging Garden.

Glen Canyon Dam

Glen Canyon Dam is a concrete arch-gravity dam on the Colorado River in northern Arizona, United States, near the town of Page. The 710-foot (220 m) high dam was built by the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation (USBR) from 1956 to 1966 and forms Lake Powell, one of the largest man-made reservoirs in the U.S. with a capacity of 27 million acre feet (33 km3). The dam is named for Glen Canyon, a series of deep sandstone gorges now flooded by the reservoir; Lake Powell is named for John Wesley Powell, who in 1869 led the first expedition to traverse the Colorado's Grand Canyon by boat.

Have a free visit to Glen Canyon Dam, there is a exhibition hall to tell visitor about the history of the dam and how it works.

View from the bridge, so deep and scary!

Horseshoe Bend

Horseshoe Bend is a horseshoe-shaped incised meander of the Colorado River located near the town of Page, Arizona, in the United States. It is located 5 miles (8.0 km) downstream from the Glen Canyon Dam and Lake Powell within Glen Canyon National Recreation Area, about 4 miles (6.4 km) southwest of Page. It is accessible via hiking a 1.5-mile (2.4 km) round trip from U.S. Route 89, but an access road also reaches the geological structure, as it is part of a state park. Horseshoe Bend can be viewed from the steep cliff above. The overlook is 4,200 feet (1,300 m) above sea level, and the Colorado River is at 3,200 feet (980 m) above sea level, making it a 1,000-foot (300 m) drop. (From Wikipedia)

This is how you feel when wallpaper appear in front your real life, excited!

Not only me, everyone is excited and taking all kind of effort and risk to take a good photo.

Beside the main attraction, the surrounding is beautiful as well.

Is end of the day, on the way back, drop by at Grand Canyon view point, this place is so windy and cold!

These places are too beautiful, hopefully I can come back again one day, good bye!
